What are the first things that would come to your mind if you had to describe Amsterdam? Most of you might mention the canals, the many bicycles, the coffeeshops, Anne Frank, Van Gogh, beautiful little cafés and boutiques… and of course the Red Light District!

If you think about the Red Light District, certain pictures pop up in our heads – that’s for sure. The one thing you would probably never associate with the area is a concept store selling beautiful and sustainable products. But it is there! And we have found and fallen in love with it.

The name of the store, Adiuvantes, finds its origin in the Latin word “collaboration”. The owner Femke shares the same believes with a variety of brands all over the world: honest and pure products using natural resources and working in community. We have talked to Lavinia and Abigail Bakker, the two young owners of Geitenwollenwinkel, a shop with a lot of charm that sells wonderful sustainable fashion. If you happen to be in Amsterdam don’t miss the chance to pay them a visit. You won’t regret it!

Tell us a little about the shop’s story. How would you describe your business concept? When did you open?
Everything you find in our store is Green, Honest and Vegan. So everything is made with respect for nature, people and animals. The store opened in December 2014 and the journey so far is great! We just launched our online store as well.

What brands are you working with?
We sell brands like: Kowtow, Rel Fake, L’Herbe Rouge, Groceries, Geitenwollenshirts, Armedangels, Wunderwerk, Peolple Tree & bags from Matt & Nat. We also have skincare from Esse, bodywash from Dr Bronners and various home products.

Cristina Garrosa is about to turn her life upside down. After a few years of working as a graphic designer, this young Spanish talent has now decided to dedicate all her energies to her passion for fashion. She doesn’t have a long background in the industry but she has something that’s much more interesting than that: the will to make things right. How would you define the style and philosophy of Filantropic? What made you take a step forward and create your own brand?
